A Recipe That You, and Your Waistline, Will Love

When you’re dieting, making the right choice to snack on veggie sticks, instead of junk food, is admirable, but it can get boring. You can only eat so many carrot and celery sticks, right?

Make your snack a little more interesting by adding a nutritious, protein packed dip. This Beet Hummus recipe, a twist on regular hummus, will keep you munching on those carrot sticks without being bored. Plus, the protein content will help nourish your muscle mass so that you can burn more calories, even at rest.

Beet Hummus

3 garlic cloves, peeled
1/4 c tahini
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 can of cooked beets (reserve 1/4 c of the liquid)
salt to taste

Directions

  1. Place all the ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth.
  2. Put in a bowl and drizzle a bit of olive oil on top just before serving for garnish.

How easy is that to make?

You can also enjoy for breakfast, as a spread on your wholewheat bread. If you’re turned off by the garlic, no need to worry — just remove it from your recipe (although it won’t be as tasty!). You can also throw in some cooked chickpeas into the mix if you want to bulk it up. Just add a bit more tahini if you do that to maintain the taste.
