What is Earlobe Rejuvenation and How Does it Make Me Look Younger?
Here’s an explanation of what non-surgical earlobe rejuvenation is and how it can work to make you look younger.
Our skin is composed of layers that hold specialized fibres called elastin and collagen. These proteins work to keep our skin healthy and vibrant by allowing for stretching and the retention of moisture. When collagen and elastin naturally begin to dissipate over time, the effect is that our skin starts to dry out, sag, thin and wrinkle. Without sufficient collagen and elastin the skin is unable to maintain proper elasticity and, in effect, our skin looks older and less healthy. This occurs on our earlobes in the form of elongation, wrinkling, drooping, drying and thinning — and the problem is amplified for women who wear earrings (particularly heavy ones).
Earlobe rejuvenation (sometimes referred to as an earlobe lift) is designed to help with this very problem. The process involves a cosmetic treatment that takes the necessary steps to repair the damaged skin of the earlobe, fix elongation and improve texture. Just as we work to repair the signs of aging on our face and the rest of our body, our earlobes can also be improved in order to help us looking younger and more vibrant. Typically, injectable fillers are used. Products like hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers can be injected into the earlobe in order to smooth the area’s skin, plump tissue and lift the lobes for a more youthful appearance.
Earlobe rejuvenation treatment using injectable fillers also helps to make an earring hole smaller if it has become stretched with time, and repair excessively large piercings. Some medical grade chemical peels are also available for earlobe rejuvenation but they aren’t as popular as fillers. The right treatment for your earlobes will be discussed with our doctor and one of our qualified medical aestheticians during your private complimentary consultation.
Every method of earlobe rejuvenation leads to similar results: plumper, more rounded, smaller and more youthful looking earlobes. The ultimate effect is one that leads to a younger and healthier appearance that you’ll no longer feel embarrassed about.
What happens during my earlobe rejuvenation treatment?
Earlobe rejuvenation treatment with injectable fillers does not require any incisions or surgery. It simply involves a gentle injection of Juvéderm® into the skin of your earlobes. This adds volume and plumps up your lobes to eliminate their elongated and saggy shape. The procedure takes no longer than half an hour and can be done easily over your lunch hour.
After your fillers treatment, you can get right back to work or other daily activities. Some swelling and bruising might occur, but these should fade within a few days. If you’d like minimize these common side effects, make sure to sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first couple of days and avoid touching or rubbing your ears.
Your aesthetic results last from six to eight months. Make sure to care for your earlobes during this time. With repeated treatments, you’ll experience longer lasting results.
How to Prevent Stretched Earlobes
Our bodies change in a variety of ways as we get older. Wrinkles, creases, and tonal changes all represent signs of an aging body but sagging or drooping skin is, perhaps, the most distressing sign of advancing age.
Earlobes, not unlike the rest of our skin, fall victim to a loss of important ingredients responsible for their health. The “stretched” look we notice on our ears is due, primarily, to a decrease in collagen (the fibre that keeps skin firm and full) and elastin (the most important component in the skin’s ability to rebound from traction) levels. As these elements of healthy skin dissipate they leave behind areas of the body and face that sag and wrinkle. In the case of the earlobes, we see the loss of collagen and elastin through drooping, saggy, thin and lined skin. This will affect the overall shape of the ear, making it look bigger and unbalanced with our face. Often, it’s impossible to hide with hair as well, making it an obvious aesthetic concern.
There are ways to minimize this damage though. Stretched earlobes can be prevented by caring for the skin of the ear in much the same way that we would other parts of our body. Making sure that the skin receives enough moisture is one of the best methods for reducing lobe stretching. Our skin cells use water as a kind of fuel for cellular reproduction — the sort of regenerative processes that create new collagen and elastin — and, because of this, preserving moisture is essential to maintaining healthy skin. Avoid dehydration by minimizing sun and smoke exposure and using quality lotions and skin care products. It’s also important to avoid wearing heavy earrings or stop the habit of pulling on your ears. The constant strain that gravity takes on the ears can cause a drastic change to the earlobes over time. If you love wearing big earrings, try to only put them on for special events.
How Can I Treat Already Stretched Earlobes?
Once your earlobes have become stretched there are only a few options available in reversing the damage, in the form of stretched earlobe rejuvenation. Juvéderm® a Toronto dermal filler, is the most commonly recommended treatment as it works to stimulate the skin’s natural regenerative properties to increase plumpness and firmness. It’s the same thing used to rejuvenate your facial and lip contour. The product’s most important component is hyaluronic acid, a natural substance grown in our bodies. Hyaluronic acid integrates with the skin’s tissue after injection and helps to stimulate the production of important fats. This replaces the volume lost due to aging and the reduction and removal of wrinkles results.
Stretched earlobes that have undergone a Juvéderm® procedure will revitalize, becoming tighter and smoother looking. With repeated application patients can reverse the appearance of years of earlobe aging, allowing themselves to look both younger and healthier.
