Leading Injectable Options
When it comes to restoring lost facial volume, there are two leading injectable options: Sculptra and Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers. While both treatments enhance facial contours, they work in very different ways.
Understanding the difference between Sculptra vs filler is key to choosing the right approach for your aesthetic goals.
What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)—a biocompatible substance that encourages your skin to produce its own collagen.
Rather than filling lines directly, Sculptra stimulates gradual collagen growth to restore lost volume across larger areas like the cheeks, temples, and jawline. Results appear slowly over 6–12 weeks and can last up to two years or more with proper maintenance.
Sculptra Benefits:
✔ Health Canada–approved
✔ Long-lasting, natural results
✔ Ideal for facial hollowing and deep structure rebuilding
✔ Addresses volume loss gradually and naturally over time
What Are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most well-known type of injectable treatment. They use a gel-like substance (HA) to instantly plump and hydrate specific areas of the face. Popular brands include: Juvederm & Teosyal.
HA filler results are immediate, reversible, and typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the product and area treated.
HA Filler Benefits:
✔ Health Canada–approved
✔ Long-lasting, natural results
✔ Ideal for subtle enhancements and facial contouring
✔ Addresses volume loss and contouring immediately

Sculptra Facial Filler: What to Expect
Sculptra doesn’t create instant changes like HA filler—but it delivers something more valuable: your skin, rebuilt from within. It is designed for clients who want long-term improvement without the volume-heavy look of traditional fillers.
Most clients need 2 to 3 Sculptra treatments spaced several weeks apart, while HA fillers usually involve more regular touch-ups.
Timeline:
- Subtle improvement begins at 4–6 weeks
- Full results visible by 10–12 weeks
- Natural, soft volume replaces sunken areas over time
“I wanted something natural—no puffiness or overfilling. Sculptra gave me back my facial structure without changing how I look.”
— Alyssa V.

The Sculptra treatment entails minimal pain during injections and a brief recovery period. Patients may receive a topical numbing agent to ease any discomfort, but any associated soreness is typically mild. Note that any soreness associated with the treatment is mild at most.
Sculptra, composed of poly-L-lactic acid in sterile water, boosts collagen production, restoring skin structure. Results may take up to two months, but the increased collagen lasts longer than most injectables, usually up to two years after multiple sessions. The breakdown of new tissue afterward varies based on factors like genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle choices. A maintenance session may be required, if outlined during assessment.
Common side effects are usually mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, or minor bruising at the injection sites. Most patients appreciate that they can resume their normal activities right after treatment.
