Definition: Cellulite

Cellulite is an inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue and is considered to be a complex skin disorder that isn’t debilitating, but aesthetically very unappealing to most of us. The condition is caused by pockets of fat that push through connective tissue comprised of collagen. There are many words for cellulite, including these medical terms: gynoid lipodystrophy, adiposis edematosa, dermopanniculosis deformans, and status protrusus.

Cellulite is due to various factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, hormonal disorder, poor blood circulation, and digestive or nervous system disorders. The root cause is unknown and even these factors are heavily contested by medical experts. It is generally agreed, however that there is no single explanation for the occurrence of cellulite, but that it is rather a combination of factors: poor blood flow, water retention, hormones, poor diet/lifestyle.

With warmer weather soon to come, cellulite doesn’t have to prevent you from wearing the clothes you’d like to wear.
