Tax Sugary Drinks

Sodas, energy drinks and even fruit juices are loaded with sugars. Consume too much of these and you know what will happen – your waistline will expand from those empty calories, nullifying those CoolSculpting results!

How bad are sugary drinks for you? They’re so bad that the U.N. health agency recommended that countries around the world subject sugary drinks to a tax and price increase, just to increase the price of them and make them less affordable. By doing this, the  World Health Organization hopes that people will drink less of these beverages, which will help reduce the number of obese people and those suffering from diabetes from burdening the health care system. (It’s kind of like the taxes that hike up the prices of cigarettes. ) Currently, it is believed that about 40% of people around the world.

In addition, the WHO recommends that subsidies are provided to reduce the prices of fresh fruits and vegetables, making them more affordable to those on restricted budgets.

The top consumers of sugar laden drinks are:

  • Chile
  • Mexico
  • Argentina
  • Algeria

There has also been a dramatic increase in the number of sugary drinks consumed in China and sub-Saharan Africa.
