Sensitive Skin Signs

8 Sure Signs You Have Sensitive Skin, and What to Do About It

The best way to know if you have sensitive skin is by having a medical professional examine for it. However, if you’re just simply curious and you don’t have time to go through the trouble of seeing a doctor (although you should if you’d like to get an accurate assessment), you may be able to informally assess your own skin by looking for a few common indicators. Our skincare specialists can also help you determine your skin type, and customize a treatment regimen that will most effectively address any concerns you may have. A chemical peel can help with a variety of problems, including redness, dryness, wrinkles, acne, and hyperpigmentation.Eight sure signs of sensitive skin include the following:

  1. Do you have general itchiness, eczema or hives? These are all signs of allergies that can either cause or contribute to sensitive skin.
  2. After you’ve shaved, look to see if your skin reacts to it. Your skin might be blotchy and itchy it you have sensitive skin.
  3. Do shower gels and soaps irritate your skin? Sensitive skin usually react to these products especially if they have added fragrance.
  4. How does your skin feel after you’ve used a perfume or after you’ve put on aftershave? If your skin reacts with blotchiness or a rash, then you might have sensitive skin.
  5. Does your skin become irritated, red or tight whenever it’s hot? What about when it’s cold? Does your skin become excessively dry and irritated? Then you might have sensitive skin.
  6. Are you constantly changing your skin products because your skin has reacted badly to them? These products could be anything like body butters, make up, shampoos, conditioners, facemasks and washes.
  7. If you do get rashes and reactions, are they located in areas like your face, hands, legs and arms? These are some of the spots that are commonly reactive when you have sensitive skin.
  8. Does your skin react to certain tight fitting clothes made with fabrics like wool, acrylic and nylon?

What To Do About Sensitive Skin

Stay away from highly fragranced skin products like soaps and lotions. Purchase the ones that are mild or actually created and advertised for sensitive skin. You should also look into purchasing soap-free cleansers because the pH level of soaps are typically not good for sensitive skin. Make sure you’re not using a washcloth that is abrasive and consider using disposable facial washcloths to minimize the harbouring and spread of bacteria. If you have sensitive skin, you should definitely be moisturizing. Your skin won’t be dry and will resist abrasion better. Make sure you find a moisturizer that is suitable for you skin (preferably non-comedogenic). Also, pay close attention to the fabrics you wear. Go for more loose fitting clothes to reduce irritation and take note that natural and smooth fabrics like cotton and silk are better than rougher or synthetic fabrics.
