ABOUT Breast Reduction – Smaller, Lighter Breasts
There’s no need to live life with the physical burden of large and heavy breasts. Breast reduction can reduce the size and weight of your breasts to make them smaller and firmer – allowing you to avoid health problems like poor posture, sore shoulders and an aching back. The procedure also positively affects the way a woman perceives herself, reducing anxiety/embarrassment and boosting self confidence and self esteem.
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that is also known as reduction mammaplasty. The procedure removes excess tissue (fat, gladular tissue and skin) to make the breasts smaller and lighter. Doing so also improves firmness. The overall result is a very positive one. Women experience a positive outcome related to their health and mental state. Their physical appearance also benefits, as breast reduction can make the body more balanced in proportion.
If you have large and heavy breasts and experience:
- Pain and aches in the shoulders, back and/or neck
- Sagginess
- A body contour that is disproportionate
- Bra straps that press deeply into your shoulders, leaving painful marks, rashes, and other skin irritations
- Inability to participate in some physical activities due to inadequate support
Then you may be a suitable candidate for breast reduction surgery in Toronto.
The breast reduction surgery
There are many techniques that are used during breast reduction surgery. In general, however, incisions are made around the areola and down toward the body, following the natural curve of the underside of the breast. Excess tissue is removed then our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who performs the procedure will reposition the nipple and areola in a location that is aesthetically pleasing, higher up on the breast. Liposuction may be performed to remove excess fat.
Before you undergo breast reduction surgery, you’ll speak with a Medical Consultant and our surgeon to determine the techniques that will be performed for your surgery. Breast reduction achieves the fastest change to body image compared to any other body contouring procedure. The women who have undergone surgery are generally pleased and satisfied with how it has eliminated the pain associated with large and heavy breasts. They’re also pleased with how reduction mammaplasty has improved their body contour and, as a result, feel better about themselves.
Recovery
After breast reduction, you’ll need to follow post-operative instructions to help with your recovery. These post-operative instructions generally require you to get plenty of rest and keep movement to minimum. Doing so will allow your body to heal faster and better, so that you can see the true results of your procedure sooner!
