Why Detox?


I recently decided to try a detox, it is my first time ever doing anything like this, went I began telling people my plan they all began to ask why would I do a detox was there something wrong with me? I thought this was odd while I could name some of the benefits I decided to do some research. I know myself when I’ve had a crazy weekend of not eating right getting takeaways or even going out for a meal and choosing something rich, that my body on a Monday morning is slow, am tired, my stomach is bloated and it makes Monday twice as tough as usual. So while looking into the detox this is what I found that may help me on my slow Mondays.

What does a detox do?

It flushes all the toxins out of your body, everyday day through eating and drinking we build up toxins in our bodies that slow all our functions down, this leaves us tired, constipated and sluggish. These toxins are things like sugar, alcohol, additives and preservatives that are present in our foods.  With a clense you are encouraging your body to let go  of all these toxins and flush them out of your body.

Can you physically see the detox at work?

Well in most cases a detox does result in weigh loss because often you are bloated as the body stores the toxins as it is unable to process them so when you flush them out you will hopefully see the difference in your waste line.

What is evolved?

Detox is a change in diet, a natural change where you eat foods that don’t contain additives or preservatives and just are good healthy foods, they process involves drinking plenty of water with these nutritious foods so that the toxins are flushed clean from the body. It generally isn’t for life, its a few days of really healthy eating and drinking however often detox food sneak into your regular diet because you may find you like feeling light and energized. Detoxing is not about staving yourself or taking pills.

What types of foods are detoxing?

Kale, spinach, ginger, beets, lemon, goji berries, blueberries, basil, cilantro, pineapple, avocado,  artichokes, cinnamon, apples, fennel, parsley, asparagus, broccoli, garlic, green tea, wheatgrass, water and the list keeps going, they don’t seem to scary do they? They are all fruit and veg that you would use on a daily bases, it is just how you prepare them and what you put with them. On a detox you don’t had store bought sauce to create a dish it’s all a combination of the detox foods, adding fresh herbs and spices to get great flavour without artificial ingredients or preservatives. It’s about eating fresh.

What food don’t you eat on a detox?

Artificial foods, refined sugar, junk food, greasy foods, alcohol, caffeinated beverages, soft drinks, chocolate, ketchup, relish, chutney, barbecue sauce, teriyaki to name a few, you also have to learn to listen to your body and not over eat.

Note: Before starting any cleanse, make sure to consult your physician, especially if you have a medical condition like diabetes. Also, don’t participate if you’re pregnant or nursing. Detoxes are also not a substitute for medical diagnoses or treatment.
