Summer cold how to kick it!



With this damp, humid summer we are having it’s no wonder so many of us are finding ourselves with a summer cold. It is the perfect weather for germs to multiply, add in some summer events, over working, over indulging and pushing are days to the max and you have a body that has low defenses and the germs take over. Well here are some tips on how to beat your cold and get back to a busy summer.

  • Take a hot shower, when you feel awful the steam will help clear your head and send you to sleep or wake you up depending on what time you take your shower.
  • Make Ginger tea, see my previous blog on ginger tea recipe, the honey will help your throat, the lemon is a boost of vit C and the ginger boost your immune system.
  • Eat Chicken Soup – it’s not the chicken in the soup that heals you it’s the protein in the chicken and the vitamins and minerals in the veg.
  • Drink warm water with lemon and cloves with honey.
  • Avoid store-bought juices & soda you don’t need all that extra sugar, try green smoothies or freshly squeezed orange juice for more vitamins and minterials.
  • Eat Garlic! This is anti-inflammatory and will boost your immune system.
  • Rest! Your body needs time to fight off the virus, it can’t do that if you are running around.
  • Drink lots of fluids, especially water!
  • Eat spices such as turmeric, cloves and cinnamon are packed with antioxidants, which help improve the function of the immune system.
  • All berries have high concentrations of antioxidants to help fight off flu viruses.
  • Eat Citrus fruits they are high in vitamin C.
  • Don’t drink Alcohol.
  • Yogurt, probiotics, the healthy bacteria in yogurt, have been linked to strong immune systems.
  • Red Bell Pepper have three times more more vit C in them then oranges!
  • Pumpkin Seeds:  This tasty snack has zinc, a mineral that jacks up the immune system by inhibiting viral replication.
