The Iron Nun Proves Age is Nothing But a Number

Have you seen the new Nike ad with the 86 year old nun?

We’re not joking — Nike’s Unlimited Youth campaign features Madonna Buder, an American nun from Washington who is 86 years old. But what’s so special about her?

Well, Buder is an avid cyclist, swimmer and runner who has competed in the Ironman not once, not twice, but 45 times, and she expects to compete in many more. After a morning prayer at the cathedral where she serves, her training regimen starts off with a long run followed by some swimming. Finally, she cycles through the mountains, up and down them. She trains pretty much daily. After all, you would have to to maintain the high level of fitness that the Ironman requires of you. If you want to keep up with the other competitors in the race, you’ll need to get used to swimming for 2.24 miles, cycling for 112 miles, and running for 26.22 miles.

They don’t call her the “Iron Nun” for no reason!

Bravo, Madonna Buder! She’s yet another example that age is nothin’ but a number. Don’t let your age define you.
