4 Cold Weather Skincare Tips

Have you changed your skincare regimen to accommodate the plunging temperatures and dryness winter brings? Four things you’ll have to do for your skin to keep it looking beautiful through the winter are the following:

1. Switch moisturizers. Put away that gloriously light moisturizer you used during the humid summer months – it’s time to break out something richer. A richer moisturizer will help keep your skin hydrated and happy, preventing chalkiness, itchiness and cracking. You can also use an additional product that will help the skin retain moisture.

2. Adjust your nightly ritual to include your feet and hands. You may feel the weather taking its toll most on your feet and hands. To help retain moisture levels, carefully massage a rich cream designed for the body into the skin, paying special attention to the cuticles (dryness can encourage the development of hangnails) and heels (where cracks can easily form). Then, put a pair of socks and gloves on to encourage absorption and get your beauty sleep!

3. Use a humidifier. Even though you apply moisturizer religiously, your skin may still feel dry. If this is the case, you may want to consider investing in a humidifier. This will help boost humidity levels inside, compensating for what’s been lost as a result of heaters.

4. Avoid long hot showers. Long hot showers may be tempting, especially when the weather gets really cold and you’ve had a hard day at work, but the habit can really hurt your skin by taking away its natural oils – something you actually want more of during the winter. Short lukewarm showers are best for your skin.
