Aging, pregnancy and the effects of gravity can greatly alter the shape of your breasts. You remember when your breasts were once firm and buoyant, but now, over the years, they’ve become saggy. They no longer sit high on your chest and have flattened out, stretching out and drooping. This change to your breast shape has negatively affected your overall body contour, and you want to do something about it. A Toronto Breast Lift allows you to achieve the body contour you’ve lost and feel better about yourself. Your self confidence will thank you for it!
Toronto Breast Lift
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that is technically known as mastopexy. The cosmetic surgical procedure eliminates droopiness, lifting the breasts to make them more youthful in appearance. Techniques used during surgery depend on the amount of lift you’d like, and also involve reshaping the breasts to minimize the “pancake” effect that is often related to droopiness (ptosis).
Droopiness is mainly caused by the loss of elasticity in breast skin. The disintegration of elastin and collagen makes the skin less elastic, thereby resulting in unappealing sagginess. As we all know, loose skin is visible in the form of wrinkles and jowls on the face, and for breast skin, it is no different. Firmness is lost and the breasts lose their projection. A breast lift helps reduce the amount of drooping and recontours the shape of the chest, minimizing the flatness of the upper portion of the breasts. While the procedure does not add additional volume to increase bra size, many women choose to get breast implants (breast augmentation) at the same time to improve their body contour in more ways than one. It can be an incredibly rewarding set of procedures!
Why Should You Get a Breast Lift?
There are many reasons why you should consider getting a breast lift. Here are a few reasons:
- It elevates the breasts to make them less saggy, so you can wear the clothes you want to wear without worrying about how you look – because you know you’ll look great!
- It will boost your self confidence, especially if you’ve been pregnant and finished breast feeding. The time following childbirth can be a difficult one, and many women tend to feel low due to the way pregnancy has changed their body.
- It can modify or re-position the nipples/areolas, correcting asymmetry or the direction in which they point.
- It can make the skin tighter in the area, bringing back natural suppleness.
A breast lift often lasts about one and a half to three hours, depending on what techniques are applied and how much correction you’d like. In most cases, an incision is made in the breast in the shape of an anchor that goes around the area where skin is to be removed. This incision defines how the nipple will be relocated. Once excess skin is removed, the nipple and areola are moved to sit higher on the breast.
If there is minimal sagging, less extensive incisions and techniques are used, such as “doughnut mastopexy”. This type of mastopexy involves circular incisions placed around the areola. Excess skin is removed.
Regardless of the incision and techniques involved, generally there is little change in nipple sensation. The extent of scars will be dependent on the technique that is deemed most suitable to enhance your breast shape.
Mastopexy patients are usually required to get plenty of rest and limit their movement following surgery. Doing so helps to speed up healing and recovery. A specialized surgical bra may be worn for several weeks to help.
