Tackle your Crow’s Feet with BOTOX®

BOTOX is FDA approved to treat wrinkles surrounding the delicate eye tissue, more commonly referred to as ‘crow’s feet’. To date, BOTOX is the only approved drug for crow’s feet, called “lateral canthal lines”.

BOTOX® manufacturer, Allergan Inc, conducted a study of 833 adult participants. The group was split into two, with one receiving a BOTOX injection while the other a placebo injection. Those injected with BOTOX had greater reductions in crow’s feet and wrinkles surrounding the eye area.

What are Crow’s Feet?

Crow’s feet are a common complaint and can show up as one of the early signs of aging skin – even in your 20s, if you squint, frown, or cry a lot, and don’t wear sunglasses to protect your eyelid area from UV rays you are developing fine lines.  Crow’s feet are caused by muscle contractions, which is why they are considered dynamic wrinkles. As you age, your collagen decreases and this deficiency causes an early breakdown of health cells which makes wrinkles more prominent. BOTOX Cosmetic works by preventing muscles from tightening so wrinkles are softer and less noticeable.

So how does BOTOX work to improve those fine lines around your eyes?

BOTOX injections work to freeze the muscles that contract and cause wrinkles. These injections help by relaxing those muscles, thus stopping the contractions all together. This prevents the skin above the muscle from becoming wrinkled.

BOTOX Procedure

Due to the often thin and very fragile skin around the eye, BOTOX® injections require a very precise procedure for it to be safe, and as with any BOTOX procedure; it needs to be performed by a certified professional. It may also be wise to seek out a physician who specializes, or is very familiar with BOTOX injections in this sensitive area of the face.

BOTOX Approval

Sharon Osbourne: ‘I think that BOTOX is one of the best things that’s ever been created for cosmetic surgery.’

The FDA has also approved BOTOX for certain medical conditions including the treatment of chronic migraine, severe underarm sweating, blepharospasm (eyelid spasm), strabismus (misalignment of the eyes when one or both eyes turn inward or outward), and for treating overactive bladder.
