The Science Behind FRAXEL®
If you’ve looked into laser skin resurfacing treatments then it’s likely that you’ve heard of Fraxel® skin resurfacing. Most of us don’t know exactly what Fraxel® is however and, to help with this, we’ve provided a look into the scientific background of the system and how it can work to improve your skin’s appearance.
What is Fraxel®?
Fraxel® is a sophisticated laser treatment that is meant to provide comprehensive anti-aging and skin health benefits for patients. It functions by using advanced technology called fractional photothermolysis — a process which consists of thousands of incredibly fine laser columns (each column is 1/10th the diameter of a hair follicle in size) being directed at skin tissue. Fraxel® targets a small, specified area of skin with these lasers in order to replace damaged tissue and assist the skin in creating new, healthier tissue. It treats targeted problems without affecting the surrounding area, allowing for the resolution of problems without the kind of unintended damage that can accompany other laser systems.
These laser columns are able to improve the skin by promoting the body’s natural growth systems. FRAXEL lasers work below the surface layers of a patient’s skin in order to increase the body’s collagen remodelling and regrowth cycle. Because collagen is so important for maintaining plumpness in skin cells and reducing the sagging that leads to wrinkling, FRAXEL is able to work on a deep and long-lasting level. By stimulating new cell growth, FRAXEL actually resurfaces the skin, operating on a much less superficial level than traditional laser systems that only treat surface problems.
What Can Fraxel® Help Me With?
Doctors recommend Fraxel® treatments for patients that want to revitalize their skin or experience anti-aging benefits. Fraxel® uses its laser system in order to treat unsightly skin conditions like age spots, sunspots, irregular pigmentation, uneven colouring or pigmentation and fine lines that have developed around the eyes.
After Fraxel® treatments patients can expect to see a large number of benefits that all work to result in a more youthful, healthier appearance. These include the reduction of fine lines around eyes, an improvement in skin texture and tone, the elimination of brown spots (caused by aging or environmental damage) and an overall increase in smoothness and vibrancy.
Fraxel® treatments heal much more rapidly than similar procedures because of the advanced technology employed in its fractional photothermolysis systems. Laser columns only target problem areas, leaving the tissue around the treatment site intact. Due to this, patients are able to experience extremely minimal swelling, redness and a speedy recovery time.
