Chocolate Lovers Rejoice!

New research from the University of California at San Diego suggests that you could be thinner if you eat chocolate regularly. How nice is that? You may be able to eat a bit of chocolate while you’re undergoing Venus Freeze!

The study, conducted on a group of nearly 1,000 participants, found that those who ate chocolate a few times a week were actually thinner, on average, compared to those who had chocolate just occasionally. Eating it regularly was more effective than sporadic consumption of the same amount. The measurement of thinness was based on body mass index (BMI).

The scientists believe that these results can be explained because of beneficial ingredients that may promote weight loss rather than gain. Chocolate contains antioxidant compounds, called catechins, which have been found to improve lean muscle mass and reduce fat.

But beware – much of the chocolate we eat is loaded with sugar and fat. So, despite the results of this study, you probably should still refrain from eating too much. Further research is required to validate this study.

Until then, some chocolate now and then throughout the week may be okay. For a healthier choice, however, opt for dark chocolate – it contains more antioxidants than milk chocolate.
